Auditions and casting calls for Southern Plains Productions, the Oklahoma City theatre company championing early-career artists and accessibility in the performing arts.

AUDITIONS

Southern Plains Productions was founded in Oklahoma City in 2020 with a vision for accessibility in the performing arts. As a non-profit theatre company, we’re committed to serving Oklahoma City with exceptional artistic productions, both musicals and plays, that enhance quality of life for our audiences and bring great credit to our craft. We strive to produce live theatre that sparks conversations and brings people together.

SEEKING: Southern Plains Productions is seeking non-union collegiate and early-career* artists who have prior theatre or music experience. We require all company members to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Currently, the CDC defines fully vaccinated as two (2) weeks after one Johnson and Johnson shot or both Moderna or Pfizer shots.

*Southern Plains Productions defines early-career artists as those who have yet to be substantially celebrated in the theatre industry, the media, or the public at large.

NON-UNION COMPENSATION & HOUSING: $350 weekly, with a $200 travel reimbursement and premium housing accommodations in Oklahoma City near shops & restaurants. A $15 per diem for time spent on site in Oklahoma City will also be given. Some group meals will be provided by local restaurants. For Lizzie: Actor-Musicians will be compensated an additional $100 weekly.

HOW TO AUDITION: Please fill out an online audition form and submit a recent headshot and resume, as well as an unlisted YouTube link containing one (1) hard rock song, about a minute, cut to show range. Additionally, actors have the option of choosing one of the sides found below, or a short comedic monologue. Please edit both the song & scene / monologue into one (1) video. All auditions must be received by FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 11th, by 5pm CST. This production will feature a cast of both out-of-town and local contracts. If you have access to housing in the Oklahoma City area, please indicate this in your audition form. CREATIVE LEADERSHIP: Director: Cameron King (she/her); Choreographer: Hui Cha Poos (she/her); Music Director: Jude Caminos (he/his); Artistic Director & Producer: Jackson Gifford (he/him); Production Stage Manager: Audrey Mantia (she/her); Dramaturg: Kaiti Barta (she/hers); Lighting Designer: Fabian J. LIZZIE DATES: Zoom dramaturgical rehearsal: August 5; Actors arrive in OKC: August 6; First in-person rehearsal: August 8; Opening: August 18; End of contract: August 20. Rehearsals take place six days a week from 9am - 6pm with evening commitments for tech and performances. Due to the short duration of this rehearsal process we will have two (2) longer tech days. CHARACTER BREAKDOWN: Lizzie Borden (high belt: F#3-F#5, belt to A5 if possible) If these characters made up a band, Lizzie would be the lead guitarist and most hauntingly gifted vocalist. Unique tone and style. She is the band. Stevie Nicks, Rachel Price, Regina Spektor, Billy Joe Armstrong, Janis Joplin. Actor/Musicians of any kind are highly encouraged to submit. TO PREPARE: 1 hard rock song, about a minute-long cut to show range. Choose either Side A, Side B, or Side E. Or short comedic monologue. Emma Borden (alto/mezzo belt: F#3-D5) Older sister of Lizzie. If these characters made up a band, Emma would be the base player with a glint of humor and stand out solos. Bonnie Mulligan, Doja Cat, and Norbert Leo Butz. Actor/Musicians of any kind are highly encouraged to submit. TO PREPARE: 1 hard rock song, about a minute-long cut to show range. Side E or short comedic monologue. Bridget Sullivan (contralto/low alto: F3 with E3 pick-up/ghost-notes in one number) – Eb5 (E5 opt. in one ad lib.) Live-in housekeeper for the Borden family. If these characters made up a band, Bridget would be the percussion: the most reliable story teller and audience representative... Adele, Patina Miller, and Mary Martin. Actor/Musicians of any kind are highly encouraged to submit. TO PREPARE: 1 hard rock song, about a minute-long cut to show range. Side D or short comedic monologue. Alice Russell (high mezzo lyric/mix/belt: G3 with F#3 pick-up/ghost-notes in one number- A5 legit soprano) Lizzie’s neighbor and lover. If these characters made up a band, Alice would be keys. Steady, essential, and romantic. Natasha Beddingfield, Harry Styles, Corinne Bailey Rae, Sara Bareilles. Actor/Musicians of any kind are highly encouraged to submit. SHOW DESCRIPTION: The world is getting hotter. There’s unrest overseas—the seas themselves aren’t very calm—and one couple is thinking about having a child. LUNGS is a smart and funny drama that follows a couple through the surprising lifecycle of their relationship as they grapple with questions of family and change, hope, betrayal, happenstance, and the terrible pain that you can only cause the people you love.
