HISTORY
Southern Plains Productions was established in Oklahoma City on a winter day in 2020, as our three co-founders—Jackson, Ellen, and John—sat around the kitchen table wondering if we’d ever again be able to enjoy the performing arts, live and in person. Smack in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, at what seemed the most inopportune and unlikely time to think about bringing people together, on stage, in the orchestrated miracle that is live theatre, we decided to start a theatre company. But not just any theatre company. A theatre company that takes its name from the region of the country that we call home: the southern Great Plains. A theatre company that honors and celebrates the traditions of the performing arts even as we seek to redefine them. A theatre company that celebrates emerging professionals. A theatre company that believes in keeping ticket prices affordable. A theatre company with an appetite for risk, a compulsion to innovate, and a site-specific philosophy that allows us to bring live theatre to new audiences. A theatre company that produces unique and compelling experiences designed to spark conversation and bring Oklahoma City residents together. A theatre company that wants to change how you think of theatre, and theatre companies.
